A little perspective on the upcoming election from someone who's been around awhile. I've been politically engaged since the late 70s, and EVERY Presidential election has been described as an existential battle for the "soul of the nation." Every candidate has pretended to be the only one who can save us. Somehow the US has soldiered on despite the excesses from the left and the rights. I get as worked up as anyone, but this realization helps me #chill out. #election
@RandomAnt Right, but in all that time, have you ever had legitimate concern that if the next vote goes wrong, it could be everyone's last vote?
There's a big difference between opponents with disastrous policy and opponents fundamentally opposed to our system of representative government, is there not?
@RandomAnt Yeah, most Republicans don't want that, I totally agree.
But one very important one does, and most of those Republicans who don't want fascism are still very much considering voting for the guy who has openly embraced fascism, so....
(and I'm from the midwest, my family is there; I'm not an outsider to this culture either)
