@Lunatech You know that quote-toot is not a proper reply toot? If you don't mention the ones you quoted, they won't see your response, and it breaks the threading.
@trinsec No I din't know that, and while I deleted and re-created that toot with the mention included, that is something I will probably forget in the future.
I really wish the software would just add the mention when you do the quote toot, like it did here when I did a normal reply to you. And then I also wish it would let you edit a toot rather than having to delete and re-create it (which is something you can do on some other Mastodon servers, but then most of them don't have the quote toot feature). But anyway thanks for the heads up!
@trinsec @freemo Well the thing I hate about the reply button is that it doesn't show any of what you're replying to. I follow many #hashtags and quite often I will see a reply with absolutely no context to indicate what is being discussed. So that is why sometimes I like to use the quote toot so others are not put in that position.
Unfortunately, I am not a developer or programmer, in part due to my terrible memory which has only gotten worse with my advancing age. Back in the 1980's I still had enough functioning brain cells that I might have attempted something like that IF the code was in a language I could understand, but that ship has unfortunately long since sailed. Now making even a short bash script of just a few lines is becoming a real challenge. Sorry, wish I could help.
@Lunatech
Wait, you can see what you're replying to. Click on a toot and you see all the posts in a threaded view. That's what the quote-toot is breaking up too, then others can't see the full thread anymore when they click on your toot.
