@LouisIngenthron so apparently I've been doing some checking and modern day gunpowder residue isnt corrosive (except for blackpowder and blackpowder substitutes)... At least as far as I can see the idea that you should clean it after every shooting session is a bit out dated.

@freemo @LouisIngenthron Anything which sticks will cause steel to corrode because it limits the oxygen flow to the region and creates an electrolytic circuit with the clean parts. It's the clean parts which will corrode, faster if there are a lot of dirty areas. Same reason that paint chips on your car rust very quickly.
