@freemo It is the word used in the region to describe the removal of Palestinians from their homes in 1948 in order to found the modern state of Israel. In the mouth of an Israeli Cabinet Minister, it is a statement that Palestinians will be forcibly and permanently removed from Gaza.
"Nakba" is no more a generic term in Israel and Palestine than "9/11" is just a generic date for people in the US.
@antares
Yea that is true.
It is the word in the region and among Arabs everywhere to refer to **any** catastrophe. But when **capitalized** it refers to the catastrophe in 1948 yes.... It does not refer to ethnic cleansing. It is similar to the word holocaust but more general where holocaust really means any mass killing, but when capitalized it means a particular holocaust (the Nazi one). Similarly in fact holocaust also doesnt mean ethnic cleansing even though it refers to an event where ethnic cleansing took place.
