@bibliolater really depends on the situation and both are ideal on their own or together. I personally approach these as: I like the post=favorite; I like the post+I would like others to see it=boost+like; I consider this important for a discussion=boost.

Considering the lack of algorithms that shows you “favourited” posts, boost is essential and should be prioritised imho.

@bibliolater Boosting is the only way to raise the profile of a toot. Favorites are basically a private communication btwn you and the other user. I mostly boost so others can see the message, too. Sometimes I evaluate the content of a toot and decide to favorite bc I like it but don’t boost bc I think it might be annoying or inappropriate for others. #BoostOrFavorite
