"Wealthy economies should abandon growth of gross domestic product (GDP) as a goal, scale down destructive and unnecessary forms of production to reduce energy and material use, and focus economic activity around securing human needs and well-being."

There's something to be said for this. "GDP Number Go Up" has been a cover for a wide range of sins. The article, unfortunately, then goes into la-la land as they skipped over this loaded statement:
>focus economic activity around securing human needs and well-being
Which "humans"? Where? They try to address the "how" but it's just a stack of decades-old, useless boilerplate that only works (to the extent that it does at all) within the paradigm of "GDP Number Go Up". Disappointing.
