i don't see why hard forks of free software should be a reason for exclusion. then you just can do closed source or some weird "you can look at it but don't run it" construct like signal does as well.

joinmastodon for sure isn't owing anyone something. part of this discussion was "mastodon.social is the entrypoint for newcomers" - so is joinmastodon. by excluding everything but what is "correct", be it forks or completely different software it's doing a disservice to the fediverse.

it has done so already by taking something, relabeling it as "the mastodon network" all while raking in tax money and working together with the EU on surveillance of the fediverse.
