Usually I have this:
1: Shovel, or maybe an inventory of sorts like a backpack or Dank Storage
2: Pickaxe / Drill
3: Axe (or any other utilitarian stuff)
4: Weapon
5: Light source
6: A building block when spelunking, to quickly plug lava holes during mining or whatnot
8: Possibly Special Travel stuff
9: Food (Though the need is diminished by my autofeeder now)

@ceoln Swords have sweep, they're good against a group of mobs. Also a slight bit faster iirc. If you are one to one, an axe might be a better one due to a higher damage. Especially if there's armor involved.
Netherite would be even better, but those are hard enough to get in modded, I don't want to know how much worse it is in vanilla. ;)
