An interesting detail in this @biorxivpreprint #preprint from @iannaconelab on the #antiviral Nirmatrelvir is that they (the researchers) produced the molecule in-house:
"Nirmatrelvir was synthesized prior to its publication (4) via a multistep convergent approach that differed from the reported procedure (3, 17, 18). Details and synthesis intermediates are shown in Figure 1A and in Materials and Methods."
I spoke with the senior author, Matteo Iannacone of #SanRaffaele in Milan for the #EMBOPodcast earlier this year about models for #SarsCov2 research, including dramatic differences between aerosol vs intranasal exposure to the virus in mice - the #pathogenesis of the disease is very different.
