Ah, I understand. There's a nice alternative for some Mi models - the LineageOS, new name for the great CyanogenMod roms.

@Asishdavid It's a customized ROM, much nicer than factory or stock androids.

I know you mentioned preferring stock android, but there are good alternatives.
For someone wanting more privacy, distance from Google's spying, it's possible to install LineageOS without any of the Google Apps.
Just mentioning. 😉
Xiao Mi is quite popular in India, Europe and other markets they are present in. Sadly not in North America yet.
