I am beyond that, and a free thinking author and publisher. As such, I had been reflecting and thinking about the impact of those facts of life on my personal content.

@design_RG I'm really confused by the logic of talking about fediblocks when kawen space has 25% **less** reach than QOTO (in other words they block or are blocked by more servers than QOTO)..
By all means I wish you success, but if your intention is to circumvent blocks you should at least pick one of the instances that has a greater reach than QOTO not a smaller one (there are only about 20 such servers but there are a few)
@freemo Thank you for the good wishes and advice. I have a few criteria for my selection, and it might change if I did find a better option. For now here's the list.
[ And this is NOT a new development -- I had been thinking it over for months now ]
Desired features :
1. NOT a mastodon instance, as I want Rich Text and masto doesn't have that or is likely to have it anytime soon.
2. That means a GlitchSocial or Pleroma instance as a first option.
3. an established instance. With a decent reputation. Seen in the Pleroma Servers list. https://fediverse.network/pleroma?count=statuses
[ many of those not considered, as they are badly perceived already ]
4. Size, Current version of software. Server location -- EU definitively preferred.
5. and that my account and its posts CAN be seen BOTH here at Qoto;
6. AND in important instances I care for, like Hackers.Town.
I could setup instantly at HT, as I am a known member of the community and welcome there'but my posts there are blocked from Qoto users, so I had to discard that option.
As far as I know, I like this server. I dis a brief focused seach, criteria above, and it seems to meet them.
Not only will my posts be visible at places they currently are not, but they will benefit from support from some users in these currently excluded places.
This is my Publisher account -- and I want to keep it separate from controversy surrounding some issues and perceptions of this instance.
I am a Staff member and volunteer, and do work hard to improve and build this; but I also work hard on my personal work, writing and publishing content.
Will be writing and reporting on various things, including what I felt I lost. Coming soon.
Number of peers? not my first concern. To be able to be seen, that's #1.

I don't foresee Eugen moving in the direction Pleroma and GS have already created and released production code.
So it's time to leave the look for more Modern alternatives. I didn't have a good chance to evaluate Friendica as well as I would like to (so that I could report on it -- it has MUCH that Mastodon doesn't).
For now, my choices are those, I am not familiar with Misskey, although it seem to be more advanced as well.
@design_RG I think the difference between us as people has a lot to do with it though..
You seem to be happy to not say something just because someone might misunderstand it, take it out of context and use it against you, even when you know it isnt meant in a bad way..
To me that seems like a horrible and oppressive way to live. I should be free to share my opinions without needing to be fearful that if someone twists it and misrepresents it im going to be kicked from a community.
To me talking freely without needing to mince your words and constantly be a politician with everything you decide to right is key to a healthy environment and the sort of environment in non-free speech instances you suggest is unhealthy and almost neurotic (not saying your neurotic, just that you could survive well in such an environment).
I have lurker accounts on several of the oppressive servers you seem to want to emulate (non-free speech) and frankly the sort of echo-chamber it creates seems to be the worst outcome I could hope for for this server or for me personally.
Lets face it, if i was actually honest about my opinions, and you know damn well I'm no nazi, I would be exiled from any one of those servers, hell, already am.
Do you really thinks its healthy to live like that, constantly in fear of ones reputation just because someone is going to come along and twist something you say? Personally that seems like the worst possible direction this server could go in.
@design_RG btw still a good chance we might move to pelorma.. I am looking into experimenting with it as we speak... the big feature issue would be remote timelines.

Avoiding conflict is a choice some of us make. Diplomacy, politeness.

@design_RG Avoiding conflict by hiding your honest and candid self is not avoiding conflict, it is creation of conflict with the self.
It is also allowing yourself to be ruled by others and to be less valuable to those who would not seek to rule you.

@design_RG Ahh based on that criteria that makes a lot of sense.. Of the top 20 instances that have the largest reach I am not certain any of them would fit those criteria.
So its not really about fediblocks in general, just a few specific instances (ones id label as pretty oppressive but thats ok) and not really about having significant reach in general.
Makes much more sense.
