Mastodon doesnt quite have group functionality yet. But if you want groups we do have something that comes close. Check out @design_RG excellent guide on how to use them here:

My friends at Hackers.Town accepted my suggestion and implemented a group for their Book Club; much, much better than trying to conduct book reviews and discussions via hashtagged posts.
