tell me your feelings about the linguistic trajectory of the term "roguelike"

@cwebber It bugs me that this concept of "your new character benefits from whatever you achieved with the previous one" is something a lot of people think of as a core characteristic of a roguelike, because in rogue and early roguelikes this was not a thing at all, so a game is not more Like Rogue by virtue of including it, so it feels Wrong that the word implies otherwise. I have learned not to go on about this because it irritates people, but...

@spacelogic I’m still salty that the roguelike/roguelite distinction didn’t really stick, I feel then we could clearly say e.g. that meta-progression is a firmly a property of the latter, but not the former. @cwebber

@timorl @cwebber @spacelogic Also, playing the "genre" card where it is a rip-off. FTL was roguelike, sure. But its clones are clearly FTL-like.
