Any networking knowledgeable people ?

Why would suddenly my data rates jump by around 8 times ?
Confirmed in the tpPLC app as well as with plcstat which generates this graph.

@falken Reduced noise in the line (and therefore reduced retransmits) seems like the easiest thing to point at here, but without more info there's no way to know for sure. I don't know what your power situation is like, but it might be time to see if anything plugged into the wall is being "noisy" and causing the data rate to dip. (Could also be that something upstream caused less noise.)

The large number of variables you can't measure without an oscilloscope is why I ended up going the MoCA route when I needed to extend without running UTP cable.

@CiscoJunkie we've not moved or used anything unusual. Could it be someone else the other side of the fuse box !?!

Considered MoCA, as just about all the places that have Powrline have coax (only some in use by Sky), but at a hundred quid for each point to point run it'd be cheaper to have someone come plumb UTP and fit some neat boxes, and Powerline is cheaper again

@falken Yeah, unfortunately there's no real way to know what caused what you saw without an evaluation of power signals before and after the change. If there's nothing within your control that caused this, it's likely something upstream from you that lowered the noise floor.

@falken And to use one of my favorite sayings, "If the issue resolved on its own, it will probably come back on its own." 🙃

@CiscoJunkie yeah, this variability is what keeps me thinking about just finally getting proper network in

@falken Having UTP in my new place has been an absolute boon. Keeping most of the bandwidth-heavy stuff off of wireless has made overall performance better, and made multi-floor coverage a non-issue.

If you were near Seattle I'd help you pull/terminate myself. 😆
