I'm going to experiment with one last new feature for #QOTO, not sure how well this will go or how well it functions but looks promising and a lot of people ask for it...
Group functionality!
Cool! Do you mean with the 'Group actor'?
A while ago I saw a 'Group account' that people could follow and send toots too.. Don't know the username anymore though..
@snder yes group actor, but having trouble figuring out exactly what that means right now. Any idea how it works?
I had exactly the same issue haha! Okay let me tell you what I know:
- Group actor has a 'group actor' badge like 'bot'
- You can follow a 'GA' and send toots to it that will be shown to all users following that 'GA'
- 'GA' is like a collective of multiple users but I'm not sure if it's a account or just some assigned 'status'
@snder yea that much i gathered, but thanks.. and I know gup.pe are basically group actors.. im just confused how this patch lets me create such actors locally
I've been chatting with the guy who did the PR but he isnt a native english speaker so its tricky.
Ah okay! I do know some time ago they indeed merged the code into the upstream. I also merged that code but no clue what it does
@snder yea thats the one.
There should be options right?
@snder you would think, but I cant find any options anywhere in the running server
That's some weird shit indeed..
@snder I think its a feature gup.pe supports and mastodon is just complient with recognizing those servers as having groups but mastodon itself wont let you create a group just yet.. I think it may be a commit intended to be part of an incremental change to add groups but for now doesnt fully add the functionality.
@snder I already have the feature live on QOTO and migration went fine (though I didnt use exactly the patch you linked)... I didnt KNOW I had the feature live though but I just checked and I do. So that isnt the issue.
Added so many new features yesterday apparently I added a few I didnt even realize I added :)
