What if we applied the same logic to deer licenses we did to murdering humans...
Basically whenever the population of humans grows to high, and they lack a natural predator, then hunting humans is legal (you need to get a license of course) until the population is brought under control.
If that seems a bit too immoral we can just introduce some natural predator in larger numbers to balance it out, like we should start releasing 100 cheetahs into NEw York's central park every day and just let them run wild from there out into the city.
@kline To a point, it does slow down our growth I suppose. But im not sure they increase in their death toll as populations increase, particularly when we consider how surgical modern wars seem to be compared to older ones.
Also I wouldnt say wars reach an equilibrium point with nature either, youd have to eliminate a lot more humans if you really wanted to have enough of an impact you'd have to bring humans back to to hunter and gatherer species almost.
Humans are *not* following the classic evolutionary rules for at least the last 100'000 years, so trying to apply them now is pointless.
As species, we have avoided countless disasters by understanding their possibility and changing out behaviours, like massive famines predicted back in 60's due to "overpopulation".

@freemo you forgot the CW: shitpost, bait, troll
@kravietz Yes we have swayed quite far away from standard evolutionary protocols.
We have begun modifying our environment in order to increases chances of survival rather than modify ourselves.
I have hope that someday soon we will figure out how to tackle over population.
Will education work? we don't know.
Maybe babies on lease will.
@freemo Maybe the pandemic is the game. And the license holders are deep states. Each deep state designs their own strain of COVID19. And then they see which strain killed the most people and accordingly declare a winner.
@freemo As we now help every individual, survival of the fittest no longer applies. It is a problem. At some point... 🤷♂️ Idiocracy.
@freemo wars basically do this already, frequently triggered by human growth outstripping natural resource supply.
