mag loop antennas have a very real functional purpose too. They tend to be great at noise rejection that comes from short distances so good in cities.
@freemo @design_RG judging by the size of the tuning cap, I think this loop is not TX capable
Normally reasonable but a ht can operate at 0.1W watts soemtimes.. so i suspect it may transmit fine on low power. an HT can really put particularly high voltage out.
@freemo @design_RG I wonder wheather the HT will break since such low TX power with high SWR. Greater than 3 to 1 SWR I presume?
@pandabo @design_RG An inadequate capacitor implies it just wouldnt handle the voltage rating, presumably the capacitance value itself still has it in tune.. So there wouldnt be high SWR.
The reason you need a bulky capacitor on a full size HF loop is because if you transmit at normal power levels you produce very high voltages, the capacitance itself is nothing special on thsoe bulky caps just their voltage rating, which would have no effect on SWR.
@freemo @pandabo Pretty neat antenna and radio. Antenna has a vaguely SteamPunk look, while the radio is modern, hitech style, and they look cool together.
