I'm not a Trump fan by any means. But when it comes to combating reckless censorship and fighting for free speech, especially in social media, I approve of what he is doing.
all too often social media sites exercise political favoritism by censoring outspoken members of one side or the other. In my mind social media should be seen as a public utility and as such its users should have protections to freedom of speech that you arent usually guaranteed in a private space.
This also may mean that a lot of fediverse instances that have servers in America might need to start second guessing their draconian censorship policies, and that would be a happy change.

@realcaseyrollins In a sense I agree. I see facebook and twitter as public utilities partyly because they dont federate and have such a massive userbase.
@freemo I don't feel this incident is censorship in any shape or form. His tweet was not deleted just notice about him lying was added. It is not supressing of free speech, they are using it to combat stupidity. I would love for twitter do that more instead of deleting tweets.
@vnarek Yea I really dont care so much about Trump being labled as "lying" or any consequences trump personally faced regarding his own toots. They could delete his account and I wouldnt loose any sleep personally.
But I do like the fact that the laws are changing to hold social media legally accountable to their censorship, im more than happy with the courts cracking down on that.
@freemo Yeah I don't have a problem with that, but he reacted to this incident, which could result in him forbidding this behaviour too.
Let's see how it goes, hopefully he does not fuck up.
@vnarek Yea, i guess lets wait and see...
> censoring outspoken members
Marking utter bullshit with "you can read more reliable info on this subject here" badge is not censorship by any known definition of #censorship
@kravietz I agree, I have no issue with the "you can read more info here" stuff... but seems that while that may have been what triggered trump, the sorts of laws he is pushing is more about censorship and likely wont really make those sorts of posts illegal, per se, but will be able to hold it up to scrutiny.
If a post is labled as a lie, and it is proven in court it isnt, then there are repercussions, for example
Note there's no "it's a lie" label involved. It literally says "you can read more here" under the original content.
TBH I would love to see his posts taken to a court because then we would have them dissected to bits with the bullshit properly exposed from expert and legal point of view.
@kravietz the post itself ist the issue. Trump cant and wot make what they did regarding his post illegal. What trump will do (hopefully) is remove protections from social media so they can be accountable for legit censorship. Thats a good thing.
Ok but then I'm missing the point - why is he enacting law that as he explained will tackle exactly the problem of marking false information as false?
@freemo On an International level (unable to meaningfully comment on internal performance) I think Trump is doing a good job. Its not perfect, but its much better than his predecessors.
@xyfdi He isnt dooing too bad internationally I agree... his major fuckups are
1) everytime he opens his mouth something harmful or stupid comes out 2) he has raped the environment.
@freemo Ad 1) That's fine. People didn't vote for for his finesse. Not really something I notice or am bothered by. Having lived next to drugs shelters you get used to it.
Ad 2) Are you referring to the Paris Accords or just in general?
@xyfdi in general, he is the pro coal president for example and generally anti-green energy. As well as deregulating a lot of pollution stuff.
@freemo He can be a fucking boomer at times. 🤷🏻♂️
@freemo I discovered Mastodon after I got sick of Twitter censoring my account/posts and sought alternatives. I deleted my FB account years back for the same reason, so I welcome this pushback on selective censorship 👍
@freemo It will be interesting to see how this influences the #Fediverse. I actually hope it doesn't; I think there is a big difference between decentralized instances censoring vs. #Twitter and #FaceBook censoring.
