Am I the only one who caught the underhanded bullshit the democrats pulled early this morning to shoot down the increase in the stimulus bill from $600 to $2000 and try to make it look like the GOP.. man these Democrats really are slime balls.
Trump proposes an increase to $2000 which of course the news is trying to sell as a "Democrat led initiative", LOL. Then the democrats pretend to play along and say its a great idea.. so far so good.. but then what do they do. They hold the vote to decide on the increase in a pro forma house session so it would effectively be impossible to pass the amendment even with a supermajority support from GOP.
Pro forma sessions by the rules of the senate can not have counted votes. That means a motion can only pass if it gets unanimous support (100% vote in support of it). This particular bill even before the increase in amount to 2K had dissent from both sides with both democrats and republicans voting nay. So by setting the vote up this way allowed the democrats to look like they supported the 2K stimulus while simultaneously guaranteeing it would get struck down.
They really are the slimesty party around right now, i cant stand them anymore.
@datatitian more or less. Sadly the democrats have gotten surprisingly good at selling the lie, and the media follows along like a good puppy because all the little sheep get mad when you report on actual facts without bias.
@freemo reminds me of a Caitlin Johnstone quote: if we live in a corporatocracy, then corporate media is state media
@freemo isn't it all kinda B.S.? It would make more sense to have the benefit tied to local economic conditions. I guess there would be fights over percentages of one kind or another though... The less abstract point is that poor and and out-of-work people had some certainty when the deal was reached and they lost it because the president wanted to...idk... kick a political football?
@2ck There is no shortage of bullshit going around in politics...
@freemo just two groups who report to the the same donor bosses putting on elaborate theater.
