WOA I need to buy one of these! A Completely modular, repairable laptop. Not just with external modules for the ports but designed to be easy to open it up and change any of the internal components as well.

@freemo been watching this for a while. I hope they do an and version!

@Locksmith I would much prefer an AMD version as well. But I have come to not expect AMD in laptops sadly.

@icedquinn

They exist, I have my older one I no longer use that is AMD as well.. but they are a rarity. I also have higher priorities.. a super high resolution (well above 1080) and large screen size are top priorities to me and that really limits my options if i want AMD.

@Locksmith

@icedquinn @freemo sounds like you want a desktop tbh, or at least a monitor to go along with a laptop
@Locksmith powerful laptops are almost always a mistake in purchasing. whatever it is you think that box can do, something else can do better and more cheaply.

i say this as someone who used to be a powerful laptop enjoyer and i'm still not fully convinced my 1,000$ machine was worth the money.

@icedquinn

depends.. when it comes to resolution and screen size I'm not sure how that logic would apply. What is better than a laptop that lets me develop in a cafe at high resolution with decent screen realestate?

Not to mention I need to actually run and test my code locally, if my machine isnt powerful thats costing me noticeable time.

@Locksmith

@freemo

Yeah until they come out with a traditional laptop rather than a sub-ultrabook thing, this falls in the category of "interesting, but not for me". I moved up from 15.6" to 17.3" eight or nine years ago and I was so much happier for it. 13.5" isn't even in the conversation.

Right now I work on a laptop that has dual 2.5" hard drives, an optical drive, and a dedicated numpad. It cost less than the cheapest kit these guys sell sans memory, storage, and wifi.

@icedquinn @Locksmith

@khird @icedquinn @freemo different strokes. Don’t use a mum pad, don’t need it. Prefer a smaller package. Most of my computing is done on a desktop. Can’t remember I’ve a disc for anything other than a coaster.

@khird

I kinda agree on that, 13" is the only thing about this laptop that is making me super hesitant. I normally only buy 17" laptops myself. Anything smaller I might as well just use my phone and call it a day.

@icedquinn @Locksmith

@freemo @khird @Locksmith 15” is comfy. 13” and below is a bit cramped. I have a 17” again because it was what was on sale and at least they are a lot lighter now than they were a few generations ago.
