LOL good old senile #Biden at it again.
"This thing I came up with costs $0, we must raise taxes on the rich to pay for it!"
@freemo He probably worded it poorly and it meant that it's going to be $0 for everyone (under $400k) without having to raise the taxes. That's how I interpret it as, because otherwise it'd make not much sense with the taxation.
@trinsec probably
@trinsec Remember no matter how much biden spends money it is always free and doesnt count because rich people.
No idea what drink that is.. Some french Canadian thing? I never actually considered french Canadian food and drink but now that I think about it you guys probably have all sorts of culturally specific foods and drinks that are separate from Canada in general.
@sergeantcat @trinsec @freemo this one is just cider.
Somehow in Quebec people from outside Quebec can’t call what they do cider. Cider has to be made by Apples grown in Quebec somehow.
But it’s true that Quebec has a distinct cuisine from Canada, although English Canada just copy our cuisine, such as poutine, tourtière (not the same as meat pie), unemployment pudding, and we take some of them, Nanaimo’s etc.
In fact it’s a whole different culture and society from the rest of Canada. Native French Canadians come from the French colonizers of New France who mixed with Native Americans and Irish and other immigrants later. They speak French and are Catholics (many do not practise and there is a societal trauma around religion)
English Canadians come from US loyalists who left the USA after the Declaration of Independence. The speak English and are mainly Protestants
, anglicans and other Christian religions.
Quebec is also more left wing economically (this is how federal liberals win, more nationalist, and about as much socially progressive as English Canadians.
Quebec also have English Canadians in Montreal (west island) , and English Canada has francophones in it as well (northern Ontario and Manitoba). New Brunswick is bilingual. And of course native Americans.
Ever since I met my first french canadian I knew one day I'd have to visit... hopefully some day soon. There is a slight possibility I was biased by the fact that she was the most beautiful woman I had ever set eyes on at the time as a hormone infected 14 year old :)
That said I've checked out french culture, and had a small taste of Canadian, so would be very interested to see how the french Canadian culture compares.
This video has exactly the right amount of sexism in it.
@sergeantcat @freemo @trinsec sorry I can’t vote for you I’d rather have drink #cider
