Liberal yes, communist no. The communist party listed him as effectively a friend of the party but asimov himself never really described himself as communist per se burt rather as a supporter of the democrat party and as a a liberal.
That said he was investigated under suspicion of being a communist and soviet spy. But back then everyone was being accused.
@freemo @hans_w Definitely my favorite sci-fi growing up. I didn't think he was Mormon though, I thought that Orson Scott Card (also not bad.)
