Ahh the fediverse, where people get offended because you politely ask for more information... do these people realize what a fool they make of themselves?

@freemo You know, googling “refugee convention” would have given you the correct answer in less time than it took to demand someone spoon feed you.

@freemo

I think the rather bizarre assumption is that if you are asking questions, it's not to self-educate but to gather ammunition for an attack. Granted, there IS a lot of that on these here interwebs but that's no excuse, really.

People suck at even beginning to make the effort to glean context anymore. It's all knee-jerk reaction to some arbitrary set of triggers.

@torq Sure, but my comment went out of its away to make it clear thats not what i was doing (precisely to ensure there wast this sort of misunderstanding). So no excuse here.

@freemo

Oh, by no means was I offering excuses. Yes, you absolutely did do your due diligence for clarity. It doesn't matter for some, unfortunately.

@freemo I love that aspect in mmorpgs, which is pinnacle of social games, yet every time you ask "guys, how to X or what Y for" someone "just for you to know, google first link" -.- I know what google for, I am here for socializing. I could live by best live just reading books, yet nature hardwired me to talk to people

@freemo It is okay to sometimes say it it is easier to just google something and read from the source that to explain it here but why people are so smug about it?

@shuro Suggesting a specific google search is not the part of what they said that is concerning :)

@freemo It was that way on usenet, when AU got their feed via tapes sent by airmail, and we got it via dialup UUCP - back then we called such responses "flames", and would precede potentially controversial remarks by donning (metaphorical) asbestos underwear.

Totalitarian social media is no different - except the platform owners also censor stuff they don't like.

@freemo @jens
Sometimes "shut up" takes less time than to write advice nobody asked for.

@Rado1

Not replying at all takes even less time and doesnt make you look like an ass.

@jens

@freemo plus ça change plus c’est la même chose 😉. Less flippantly and as you point out it is somewhat more complex. The Convention is part of the packages associated with sign up to various UN and other international institutions, but ultimately the only ‘police’ are the citizens of individual countries, so a most imperfect arrangement. Of course there are border checks the key being whether people are treated as such or not. Our principles are admirable our practice Is often wanting!
