@bibliolater Man vox, they always get everything wrong... They mention "its not a symphony its a requiem"... no... its a symphony and a requiem.
A requiem is a compilation written for mass. A symphony is an orchestra piece with certain musical qualities. It was both.
@freemo I suspect you may be correct. From memory I believe it started life foremost as a hymn and then had a melody added.
