Just a reminder, it is perfectly ok to ridicule or insult an idea, just dont do it to people. But also the flip side to that, be ok with your ideas being mocked, but expect personal respect.
I run into this often, people think im rude cause I will call an idea idiotic and they say "ad hominem is weak, you just called me an idiot" to which I will often reply "No I didnt, I only pointed out you said an idiotic thing, I am sure you have some things to say that arent idiotic too"

I often think, "No, I wasn't calling YOU an idiot, I was saying you're ACTING like an idiot. And, in fact, I think you're better than that, so you might want to change course."
When an actual idiot has idiotic ideas, well, there's not much point calling them out on it.
It's almost a positive thing to point out that someone's ideas are idiotic, as that suggests maybe they'll be smart enough to understand why.

Exactly, like if I thought you were an idiot I wouldnt even need to bother telling you that your words or actions are idiotic, it would be a waste of my time.
