I think the splitting of mastodon into federated communities is a bad idea.
I think this because the communities are isolated and this naturally generates division and clashes among different groups of people.
While I don't currently see huge problems, I can see this getting worse as more people join the social network.

I'll take the Italian community as an example, since that's what I know best.
Italian mastodon is split into several different communities, the largest are generalist.
If I'm not mistaken, the largest three are: mastodon.uno mastodon.social mastodon.bida.im
The first one proclaims to be the official mastodon instance for Italy and many people from the other instances disagree with this.
I'll analyse this particular conflict, which appears to currently be the largest one in the Italian community.

I'll refer to mastodon.uno as the main instance and others/outsiders for all the other Italian instances.
Not all Italian instances are involved in this debate, but most of them are; there is maybe livellosegreto.it that stands a bit more neutral.

Other instances look down on the administrator of mastodon.uno and often criticise some of his actions.
The admin of the main instance condems the other instances for being anarchists/rebellious, it is true that some of these instances host some anarchists but that definitely is not the scope of those instances.
The admin of the main instance sometimes responds by blocking/silencing people at an instance level.
Going forward, this hate towards the admin migrates towards the users of the main instance.
Thus you will get people from the other instances discussing with each other about how bad the users of the main instance are and often insulting them.
More often than not these are just generic insults directed towards nobody in particular.
However, since most of the people engaging in these behaviours are being blocked by the main instance, most of the people that are being insulted are ignare about it.

You thus get a system in which according to the instance you choose you'll be induced into hating certain people or you'll receive insults solely for your instance choice.
It becomes normal to make jokes about mastodon.uno users, for no particular reason and new people joining get used to it.
Now, this is just a petty fight about the ideology behind instance administration and the discussion is mainly about some bold claims and practices done by the administrator of mastodon.uno.
However, this system could get much worse when instances with different ideologies get to clash with each other.
At that point you'll get real radicalisation of people.

I don't think there's a solution to this.
Defederating an instance might work only when it is getting started; defederating gab has no real effect since it already has enough people to self sustain.
Deciding to defederate a small instance is however hard and won't probably work, since people will be skeptical about closing their doors to someone who is just starting out.

All in all, I think the system is flawed and that no solution is available to avoid these problems from arising once many users join.
I offer no solution.

@rastinza
I'd like to speak with anyone about communities in Mastodon as friends personally or as small group towards anything healthy.

I offer a solution;
Talk about it, see what happens.
Re-group thoughts
Purify in ourselves

Instant audio chat works, so if interested let's make time (like now) or later because talking usually works itself out and gets the right focus without overthinking it.

I can also act as a moderator / point-keeper if wanted / permission given.
Thank you.

@freeschool
I have given a clear example of an unhealthy behaviour that naturally nurtured within mastodon.

I'm mostly untouched by these behaviours, but I do observe them.
I don't see how discussing about it with me will solve the issue.
I have no intention to try and make mastodon better.

Ok sounds like you're decided about chatting as text.
I would say (without knowing you or anything) that this kind perspective is taken with many things more important so although talking isn't needed between me and you, just imagine others who say the same about talking for more important things and from lack or practise or more uncertainty than anything (which is natural) one reason I wish to practice it is because anything is better and surprisingly more productive / fun / more-human than text and towards being friends.
I see text-only was mostly for everything as contributing factor and filter to what causes people to go in themself or find problems with others... tons or text and 10mins chatting would have emotionally comforted each to have at least said it / be heard.

Thanks for reading, just a way I guess I found a more-human way (though don't doubt you do it from time to time), But even if it doesn't always seem needed it usually it.
That's just something really human.
Kinda makes friends with the world which text doesn't do quite so well or so deeply
Audio pushes things further and tests much more (and accordingly rewards / gets respect for the doing).

Updated: Sound like I'm anti-text but I just mean much more audible contact with everyone start and continuing with text no problem.

@freeschool
I do agree talking is different.
I prefer talking over text.
In this case I see no reason to talk about this; I'm just providing insight on something I observed and that I want other people to be conscious about.
I am not trying to find a solution.

Talking about it privately with you would just give more insight to the two of us and cut out all the others.

Moreover, it is not clear to me what you want to talk about.

@rastinza
Great. I guess giving chance to relativity is always the good thing with talking or learning more while finding similarity / acceptable differences.

And with your own inspiration and things around then this is the surprising part of speaking (at the beginning people see no reason but seeds sewn quickly can be encouraging in many ways unseen at beginning)

But anyway happy with your response.

I think I've seen you around and think it's good to talk with people who are general favourable for one's self again for many reasons but affinity or relativity I guess is what builds a healthy world so this is one way.

For a topic I'd like to know generally if you have negative feelings about Mastodon and maybe a bit about that. Sounded a bit like 'I'm done with it' or your cup is full in solving things... but I'm guessing / stirring the pot a bit. Thanks
