Jimmy Carter was right. The USA should have adopted the metric system.
@garyackerman we did. Go to the grocery store and try to find something that doesn't have the metric measurement on it. We just didn't mandate we stop using the old units. Most of those will die off slowly, except maybe Fahrenheit, which is objectively superior for people day-to-day.
@garyackerman In STEM fields we have. It's still refreshing to see Weight in Kilograms and Celsius called the Metric metric for measuring Temperature.
Something about Mass and something about 273.15 degrees. Maybe having to keep track of two different systems has been beneficial in that we don't trust measurements. Some Americans are familiar with the Metric System thanks to drugs or weapons.
It could be considered part of our system of Checks and Balances. The Judicial, The Executive, The Legislative, The 5th Column, SAE and Metric System keep (Representative) Democracy mostly free (from decisions).
