The bird site has now started to separate notifications from verified accounts from everyone else. This appears to be the start of the two-tier system, those who pay and those who don't.

@julie78787 it’s a thing. Only time will tell if all the changes do make the site better. Reddit did go through a painful period in the past and it came out of it better. Perhaps this time it is Twitter’s turn to go through the same.
@gpowerf - I'm going to "verify" my main on Twitter. I'd pay for Facebook if I got more / better features and fewer ads. If being
