@freeschool I don't use youtube myself as it's a proprietary spyware that treats it's users as a slaves that it can rob off of revenue whenever they feel like it.
So i prefer invidious, freetube and peertube, but i am using youtube.com links in my posts expecting the end user to have a redirect in place such as https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/privacy-redirect as using invidious links causes overloading of the instance and defeats the point of decentralized service.
I guess better solution would be to use https://redirect.invidious.io, but that doesn't give me embeds and the link then gets annoyingly long to not be practical to use on twitter.

I get the logic but the priority would be making sure 100% no youtube.com link...
@kreyren I get the logic but the priority for me would be making sure 100% I'm not using youtube link at all.
So I get some logic but mixed messages come from making something else the priority like embeds. I might have it wrong and see the convenience or tech perks but they are catching you back into using it again... and that is half the point of doing it the alternative way in the first place as it's *always* going to be longer or going to be something in some way not the same - that's *why* we do it or want to make sure of it.
Not saying it's a massive thing against you :) but gotta keep the line soldier ! You're breaking it by using youtube.com link / code... :p
Ok so my 2 cents -
I like the firefox link you sent but also I wouldn't assume anything on surfers side.
Simply making link 100% safe <--- is my guarantee we are winning / not leaving traps for others in getting advertised to.
I'm assuming people are not ready / need to be caught / need seeing different to youtube.com links to wonder why and even try it! (so some education and habit changing is there both for you and user... to get indvidous in their browser history links and accepting all-you-can-eat people are always trouble)
Aesthetics, embeds, everything else can take a back seat as we all accept this site is not ours to begin with but great we can use/abuse them back somewhat if we really need to (good to to even abuse it and not normalise it again)
Links can take a longer route by that's also in the learning and saving time (also saves adding plugins too). I personally want to make sure I'm not pushing a click in that direction or looking like I have link to support them to seem it's ok on my profile - can do damage visually or even by accident without plugin.... on Mastodon... or Twitter as copy and pastes... shares... etc
Links also promote Indivious spreading the safe system or link in their browser which is our goal (as well as using YT as a habit less because anyway they will make it locked down more and more in future )
So that's the mixed message from my side. Advise to take the hit and do the long way and accept we can't get the same standard for the all partnerships and all-you-can-eat way tech works in the visibility or convenience and just leave them to themselves.
Less super looking but safe.
A bit long but feels right.
@freeschool Embeds are important as that increases reach and interaction
> Not saying it's a massive thing against you :) but gotta keep the line soldier ! You're breaking it by using youtube.com link / code... :p
I am open to changes, but they have to be a better or equal to the current solution where ideally peertube to show youtube content and/or news agencies using peertube
> Simply making link 100% safe <--- is my guarantee we are winning / not leaving traps for others in getting advertised to.
That is against my politics i am more liberal in what people are allowed to choose where i only provide them valid reasoning and info so that they can make an educated solution. Forcing never helps anyone
> Links also promote Indivious spreading the safe system or link in their browser which is our goal (as well as using YT as a habit less because anyway they will make it locked down more and more in future )
Hmm i can try providing both youtube an invidious link but that will make it problematic for twitter (i avoid that platform and mainly use bridge from mastodon for reach)
@freeschool can't you make like a voice messages for something long x.x
i disagree that peertube, freetube and invidious is far from same or better solution, it is already a better solution, but not usable for this usecase due to the lack of embeds and sufficient load balancing.
YouTube is used by media bcs **they get paid** for making the content there and the platform having a long reach for the news, this has to be addressed by peertube to replace youtube.
i use twitter on demand of my supporters and to make public statement to local officials and companies, i consider that significantly inferior solution to fediverse
let me know if i missed something
@kreyren
I always encourage voice chats so we can do that - most people don't reply after that so happy you suggested it!
Maybe we can let this rest as there is some fine-tuning but I think most of it is there and simply a choice we're aware of
And... *as always* the need to spend a lot more time is required to discover something deeper or another way to say it so either I realise something more or you or both or we confirm that actually we're good etc :)
Happy to talk about it.
