Depends on who appraises it. Dates aren't everything but it does easily add value to a book because it becomes easier to authenticate/appraise.
@lucifargundam Right, all boils down to how neccesary the date is to identify when it was printed and what edition it is. If no first editions have dates and all later editions do then the lack of a date would add value.
Only place I could see it getting hairy is if the date was omitted across multiple editions.
@lucifargundam If it is a forgery but actually an old one in some rare cases that can have some value too.
