Well, water is arguably the most important substance on earth and has been here since before life began. We also make up mostly of water, and still use it to transfer merchandise across the globe during a age when we go to space for fun.

@lucifargundam Its only important to us because we are alive. Outside of life it is pretty unremarkable as a chemical or a solvent except for being unusually strongly polar and selective as a solvent.
