One question: why do you guys using this? All Twitter refugees?
@iPabloSB Do you think people will go back to Twitter? After all, the features are quite similar between the two platforms but there is more abundant content on Twitter.
@iPabloSB One more thing is, if Mastodon arrange contents on different servers, it might control hatred speech better than Twitter does
@lukecao yeah, I think the federation of mastodon is its strong point and weakness. It will scare some that look for the simplicity a single instance like twitter has, but it provides amazing tools to make every server different, with a set of rules and tools to make it the instance you want to stay in. Following servers, banning others and keeping another account for a specialized server such as a TTRPG, gaming, music and so on makes Mastodon different enough that it can create its own path and be strong enough to survive and thrive on the twitter demise and current massive migration.
@lukecao I've been on the Fediverse for years. Never used Twitter much, so not a Twitter refugee here.
@trinsec Wow, why don't you use Twitter? I thought people would prefer a platform with more people and more content.
@lukecao Toxic. Very toxic. Plus riddled with sponsored posts and other irrelevant nonsense.
I don't care if my friends liked this and that person. If it was important they'd have retweeted it. But instead my whole Twitter feed is full of 'X liked Y' and I barely get to see my friend's posts anymore. I have zero interest in the many almost-naked ladies that one of my buddies keep liking...
It's not about the quantity, it's about quality. My experience on the Fediverse is much better than on Twitter. I had whole conversations with many people... one that's seemingly impossible over there. It is SOCIAL media here, not a BROADCAST media that Twitter seems to be.
@trinsec There's a similar platform like Twitter in China called Weibo. I don't use it too much as well, because I think too many people arguing about everything on that, and this makes me feel very uncomfortable. But I don't use any Fediverse as well, so I'm quite interesting in why you prefer Fediverse than Twitter
@lukecao I hope my answer on your other post answered most of your questions. :)
@trinsec Sure, very helpful! Thanks a lot
@lukecao i mean I started now with all the twitter migration, but I wasn’t really using twitter anymore. I guess it’s a bit of curiosity and to see how this shapes in the coming weeks/months. I don’t think it will be the new twitter, and I personally think it shouldn’t be. It should become its own thing and shape into something new that people would love. Otherwise, Twitter will (if it survives this chaos) welcome back all the migrants once the dust settles and doesn’t disappears, and Mastodon will slowly become less and less relevant.
