@lupyuen No offense but fuck china.. only time they do anything involving "privacy" is as a sledgehammer to fuck its people over. A country that is striving to have 24/7 surveillance and facial recognition of its entire population, tracking their every movement, has no right to use the word privacy IMO.

@freemo Unfortunately some of us in Southeast Asia need to use China apps: WeChat, Taobao, ...

So this crackdown on data privacy is good for us, I think.

@lupyuen I would imagine the "crackdown" will just ensure its easier for China to spy and harder for companies. The latter is ok, the former not so much.

@popolon @freemo I get the feeling that China Govt is worried about losing control to these powerful apps. Hence the crackdown on Alibaba and friends

@lupyuen I <3 1984 (also a decent movie). I can see the comparison also.

@popolon

@lupyuen @freemo This is what 70%+French citizens thing about their own government, this isn't the case in China, as far I know... looking at so much Chinese friends that come back in their country after years working in France.
@lupyuen @freemo Happily since few weeks, justice started crackdown on government members in France, that was the case of Justice minister last week, and could be Interior minister in few days (police minister of police). He was already in trouble when he started this function with some sexual abuses stories. He is now in trouble with some friends company that was paid 300+M € in charge to distribute electoral material and that only distributed a little part and used money to buy cars and villas. president Macron will also be in trouble after he finish his mandate that give him immunity with justice. They trick democratic institution as far they can for their own interest, and really use double language.

If I compare China and France, in France poverty grows a lot. French richest people become the richest on earth this year and at the same time a big part of the population goes down under poverty level. At the same time, poverty has mainly ended in China. Singapore has a particular situation as a fiscal paradise and his position in strategic Malacca strait, but China had lot of work to improve the situation on his huge territory. I seen really great changes in 20 years of visiting China, and whole people live standard elevation. In France this is the opposite, there are so much people living in tents in streets in Paris now. Outside Paris and few other big cities most public transportation was closed for "free competition" and people can't afford work. growing big cities concentration. In China, public transport really progressed and is still affordable for most people, even bullet trains.
