@mguhlin I find that the best way to change minds is to get to know someone first, make friends with them, and let conversations flow from there. It's also a lot more pleasant and natural for both you and them than simply arguing.

It's one of the reasons why I really like Discord and other chat apps, and why I always really disliked Twitter compared to Mastodon. With Discord and Mastodon you can have community. With Twitter you feel like you are just running into other people shouting into the void like you are, rather than getting to know anyone.

@mathlover I shout and sometimes, I get an echo. I also like to share stuff. And because I am a loner by nature, I don’t always need affirmation. But I agree wholeheartedly with your approach. It is the best way. I don’t always take the best path. :-)
