@freemo Thinking worst case scenario; if hijacked at sea, the waste could be used to produce "dirty bombs".
@modrobert yea thats certainly one aspect of worst case.. the other is a leak or malfunction into the sea, which is why they shouldnt even be directly on the water when land based. When inland they have the advantage of being able to contain leaks far more easily.
@freemo @modrobert It's really strange to me how just generally people treat the oceans as being so vast that anything we do can't hurt them. We're (they're) doing the same thing with space, with all the waste and trash that's started to accumulate.
@modrobert yes modern nuclear plants with a high degree of safety on land without any good routes for nuclear contamination spreading are very good options to have.
I am not anti-nuclear but safety is very important and one aspect of that means you plan for worst case. Boats cant and dont do that.
