@freemo you are corrct i jsut created my own view called neocomputerism
@freemo @pendragon It's weird, because a few years ago the Trump campaign was paying Facebook to manipulate people into being the kind of person that would chant “build that wall”.
Now, I'm not sure what they're doing. They're still hosting people who are breaking their policies if they're famous “conservatives” (probably because of the antitrust litigation), but they're then being inconsistent in the way they're applying their other policies, and I just don't understand it.
Yea Facebook really is all over the place. I just want them to get the fuck out of politics.. Get rid of fact checking, ban all political ads, call it a day.
@freemo @pendragon They can't, though. Facebook, by its very nature, has a political stance.
Their engagement-optimising algorithm will favour the most rhetorical campaign, and therefore the kind of politician that tries to divide the populace with hatred, and therefore the politician that divides the majority against the minority will have the most overall exposure on the platform. That's even *before* the “political ads” hyper-targeted to people Facebook thinks are vulnerable to manipulation.
Well there is little doubt that for facebook to become neutral it would be a significant change for them as a company.. But its not that they cant, its just a question of if they are willing, and probably not.

@freemo @pendragon If Facebook becomes neutral, it'll piss off the politicians that are currently defending it against antitrust.
They already have neutrality standards, and a Code of Conduct, but if they employ them then they'll be legislated out of existence – so they don't. Their only real option after that is to “fact-check” but, again, if they do that *properly*, they might lose their monopoly.
That's the only way I can make sense of what Facebook's doing.

I'm not sure I agree with that, most of what I saw in their congress hearings were congressmen questioning their lack of neutrality, not the other way around.

@freemo @pendragon And yet, if you look at Facebook's (neutral) policies, and you look at how they're applying them (example: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/facebook-donald-trump-copy-account-flagged-inciting-violence/)… Facebook *aren't* neutral, no, but they're more neutral than these politicians would like.
Because the politicians are living in politics land, where any criticism (no matter how legitimate) is evil discriminatory biased slander. The truth is up for debate, arguments are soldiers, and disagreement is betrayal.

@freemo @pendragon Here's an example of Facebook not being evil about this: https://www.bbc.com/news/election-us-2020-53673797

@pendragon Sad but true.. I have seen their "fact checks" often ping things about trump and then you click the fact check and it effectively says that the article is correct but then says a bunch of unrelated negative things about trump (which are sometimes valid).. Thats not fact checking though, thats basically campaigning for the democrats at that point.. its basically "yea those good things about trump were true but have you considered all these shitty things, also biden is awesome!".. the fact check articles are also usually with some pretty heavy bias, the author tends to clearly show a bias in wording that suggests they arrived at an opinion.
Meanwhile I've seen things posted by biden that have been debunked by more reputable and even left-leaning publications like CNN and yet those posts dont get the fact check link.
The bias is extraordinary, obvious, and a bit too much. I say this as someone who is no Trump lover too (though I dont like Biden either).
