Should I keep making my replies unlisted?

@peterdrake On Friendica's interface it doesn't matter--it all shows up as the same thread... I'll leave it to the Mastodon users to chime in!

@peterdrake

Generally, I think transparency is better for a community, so I think it is better to make everything public unless you need something to be private for some reason.

@Pat I wasn't going so far as private, but merely "unlisted", so people aren't seeing the 13th reply toot in a thread popping up in their timeline without context.

@peterdrake

I think there is a way to shut those off in your home feed and only show original toots.

@Pat Interesting. I see it. Do you happen to know if this is a general Mastodon thing or is it qoto-specific?

@peterdrake

Sorry, I don't even use it myself, so I don't know. :ablobsigh:

@peterdrake If it’s unlisted and I’m a timeline completionist, would I ever see them? I’m used to seeing out-of-context posts and going into the thread/detail view to get context if I need it.

@pesh I think the only way you'd see it is if you clicked on some other post in the thread (or if, as in this one, you were tagged).

@peterdrake Ok, that’s what I thought. I don’t think I would ever see the continuation of the thread then because I would have to go back and check if you’d replied to an original post, and I’m not going to do that for every post. To me, unlisted only makes sense for reply posts like this one.

@pesh So are you advocating for making replies unlisted unless you're replying to yourself?
