No it's mostly the fedilab interface that confuses me, though a brief overview of what Mastodon actually is won't hurt :)

That may b helpful, in essence Mastodon is like twitter so you can make short posts, include pictures, others can boost, like and favourite posts. But with Mastodon you also communicate with other mastodon instances in the fediverse and also instances of services such as Friendica.
