#introduction Hello folks, I'm a perpetually-sleepy #uxresearcher currently working with #rstats and studying #datascience. If I'm not working I'm either sleeping or decorating houses in #lotro. I'm very interested in #nlp and #interactivefiction and hope to do stuff related to these topics in the future.
@trinsec Wildstar's housing system was really good too, almost like EQ2. Lotro still uses housing hooks but you now have leeway on where to put stuff. There are more neighborhoods too. I actually just got back, it's the 15th anniversary this year. Lots of goodies, they are giving away collector's editions of expansions up to Mordor. Oh, and every quest, instance, and expansion up to Helm's Deep is now free. You should log back in at least just to get everything.
@rivengodwind I think we already have everything of LotRO up until uh... yeah with Helm's Deep at least. But we might give it a go again sometime. Just that once we hit the Rohan area we're like 'bleeeeh' because all you get to do is stupid quests and no epic feeling anymore.
I'd say the height of LotRO was Mines of Moria, that was such an epic feeling when we entered it for the first time. I miss that time.
We hadn't played WildStar much, way too fast and colorful I kept losing track of my direction. I don't think we got around to trying its housing and now we can't anymore, alas.
And yeah, the leeway in LotRO was a nice addition, it did help. But it's still a very limited amount of items you can place in the homes.
@trinsec I got late into the game so Rohan was like launched years before. For some reason the grind was okay for me, but maybe because I had time then. I agree, Moria was really something, and I think they tried to recapture the same feeling in the latest expansion since it's Gundabad.
@rivengodwind I hope so, but we still need to get past the slog that is Rohan though, heh. That area's way too huge. Maybe we'll skip by a bit via skirmishes.
@rivengodwind
Hi, nice to see you here!
I'm a UI designer and I work in data science for chemistry; what you do looks very interesting!
@rastinza Heya! I'm more like a corporate slave masquerading as an academic, but sometimes it gets interesting. XD
@rivengodwind
Oh, damn!
Then maybe it's better what I do: UI freelance so I'm not anyone's slave and research in the free time
I'm trying to start getting paid for conducting the research however...
What's UX research about?
@rastinza Basically it's all about studying people as they interact with environments, goods, and/or services to fulfill their needs, with the ultimate objective of optimizing their experiences. UX actually means "user experience". You would definitely find this field fascinating since you design UI.
@rivengodwind
This looks great, do you have any article to advise?
Both on findings and methodologies.
@rastinza Hm, if I'm to suggest only one online resource, it should be the folks from MeasuringU: https://measuringu.com/blogs/. Once you've browsed this, it opens up a lot.
@rivengodwind
Thank you! I'll read through it in the next days
@rivengodwind Have they improved the housing thing in LotRO yet? I still think EverQuest 2's housing system is the best of all I've seen. (Granted, I never did SW Galaxies, I've heard great tales about their housing system).
