@_lunawinters It is a shame that this practice is still so common in many places. I remember there was a Didi who used to live in rent with her family in our House. She was quite educated and beautiful (not that it matters) but still ended up paying 8 lacs in dowry. Such a shame!
More problematic is there are many who even think of paying dowry as a matter of pride.
@shibaprasad true. I often think what's the reason of paying or taking dowry? Like just why?
@_lunawinters Really no clue about this mentality! Many still think it is their 'liability' to provide for their daughter as her Husband will 'take care' of her. Can't even begin to point out how wrong that is.....
But yeah, there are many who don't take anything. And vehemently oppose if anything is offered.
During my Parent's marriage, I heard my Paternal Grandpa didn't take any dime. His condition was "Ek kaprah main vida" (That is, the only thing you'll give your daughter is the dress she'll be wearing during marriage). Nothing more.
@_lunawinters Damn! That's awful. Don't know how can anyone give a threat to burn their own daughter in law! Inhuman.
