Morality doesn't need to be intellectualised

If you need to stop and think about it, that's not morality

Real morals are instinctive

Real morals come from our genes

Morals can't come from a book

Morals can't be taught

@soundwave but moral itself is a branch of social knowledge and social knowledge is subjective :blobcatfunny:

@deesapoetra

Morals can be described and written down, yes. But a person can be moral without ever reading them

An immoral person can act in a moral way, and know that it is moral, without ever having been taught which is which.

@soundwave well. Hopefully people will change in the future to develop and use a mathematical model for moral since it wayyyy more "just".

@deesapoetra

This is why I think Dr Mann in Interstellar was not wrong. He was much, much smarter than everyone else, his rationalising was flawless.

He was not a coward, but his actions made him appear to be one, from the point of view of an outsider who hadn't done the same calculations that he did

I mean, he was not wrong, he was just an asshole.

@soundwave i'm actually a fan of interstellar!
I loved the movie so much that i began to embrace dr. mann character.

@deesapoetra

Have you seen "Tenet"

I loved it and if you didn't love it, I want the chance to change your mind

Christopher Nolan makes good movies

@soundwave
> Have you seen "Tenet"

Nope! I will tho'

> Christopher Nolan makes good movies

Couldn't agree more

@soundwave unless you used mathematical model. :ablobderpy:
Like
Killing 4 peeps is always better than 10.
saving a person that could save a million live on demand is better than saving 1000 live that only hypothetically save another million but the time is uncertain.

@soundwave well what does mister Plato have to say about the astoundingly "meh" people

Didn't think about that one did he

@soundwave on a more serious note it's probably for those people who the law impacts most in their decisionmaking

Like he seems to have said (if this quote really is true) bad people are going to be bad anyways, and good people are going to be good anyways

but doesn't it follow from that that certain people who might have behaved evil in another world won't both due to the punitive reprecusions and the social reprecusions laws set

Allthough i guess the inverse is true as well, lot of people neither strictly evil or good might act badly in accordance with unjust laws...

@minimo

A very long time ago, I got my house broken into once. I confirmed to the Police and the insurance company that I had indeed locked my doors.

The police officer said "locks only keep honest people honest."

I've never forgotten that.
