@swiley I'm surprised you didn't mention F-Droid? Wouldn't that be the alternative to Google Play?
@trinsec IMO: It would be best to get away from android entirely. F-Droid is an improvement but most of what people consider android stops functioning (sometimes entirely depending on the device) when you remove the closed parts.
