@robryk Just click on the user icon in that page?
@trinsec Nope, that opens a larger preview of the avatar. Try for yourself: https://mastodon.social/@foone@digipres.club
@robryk Why are you linking from mastodon.social there??
Might be that mastodon.social has a different interface that breaks this behavior.
@trinsec Because this is where the "go to user's new profile" link on https://mastodon.social/@foone takes me to.
@robryk That user has clearly moved on to another instance.
That links shows me this (see image).
Mastodon.social seems to break the behavior of clicking on the user image. If you copy that URL into Qoto's search bar, you'll see that clicking on the user image would lead to their web front profile page.
I wonder if we'll break this behavior as well when we upgrade Qoto's Mastodon server.
@trinsec And on that page, clicking "go to profile" sadly sends you to https://mastodon.social/@foone@digipress.club
@robryk Clicking on 'Open original page' does lead me to https://digipres.club/@foone though.
@trinsec Imagine I'm a new Mastodon user (or even a non-Mastodon fedi instance user). I need to notice that "go to profile" doesn't yet send me where I want (and understand the concept of displaying remote profiles), and then find a link that's in a non-expanded menu.
@robryk Maybe it helps if I logged out off mastodon.social in the first place to test this out... (yes I have a few accounts around the Fediverse, including this).
So umm.. the first link you gave, once I'm logged out, immediately brings me to https://digipres.club/@foone which is good?
@trinsec Oh, that's very weird: if you navigate to that link it indeed does so. However, clicking on the "go to profile" link on mastodon.social/@foone does some magic (either JS-driven URL update or referer matching) and points you at the remote profile page on mastodon.social.
@trinsec Yeah, that's JS-driven update without a reload kind of magic. Might be a bug then?
@robryk Something that's useful to know for the future:
You can copy any Mastodon-links in your Qoto search bar, and it'll open those links within your Qoto interface, which might be more useful to you.
Additionally, clicking on the user icon on their profile page within Qoto's interface will lead to their original profile page on their own instance.
@trinsec But I do appreciate you pointing out ways to avoid the confusing part.
@robryk And I agree with you. I have to see what'll happen when we get around to updating our server to their version as well. Some features are nice, but not everything's an improvement.
@trinsec I'm not saying it makes it hard for me to do things, but that that's a UI that's very confusing for newcomers.
