I see that people with hearing aids are kind of panicky about their hearing aids.. There's someone at my place now who's slightly hard of hearing, so she's got hearing aids. When I needed her to help me a little bit with something outdoors, she was like nonono, it's raining and my hearing aids shouldn't get wet!
I said there was a simple solution then, just take them off for a bit. Oh nonono, she couldn't possibly do that. They need to stay on!
Wtf? They're just hearing aids, man. It's not like your life depends on them. I'm frigging deaf, I'm living proof that not being able to hear isn't going to hurt you. Let alone not being able to hear for 5 minutes. :P
I kind of remember this bit from my own past when I still wore hearing aids. 90% of my time was spent worrying if the battery was still full enough for me to hear something. Fucking things, I should've gone fully deaf sooner.

@StroomAfwaarts Likely not much better. Consumes more power.
@trinsec
Why can't they be fed with body heat or something? It's 20-effing-23!
Anyways, I meant the rain. You can't take it off, right?
@StroomAfwaarts Oh, I don't know. I only know that I didn't care to take off my HAs back then while it rained... So I wonder where this overly careful attitude suddenly comes from, she wasn't the first one to be panicky about HAs and rain.
@StroomAfwaarts Oh, and you can take off CI easily.
@trinsec
Your boss can never shout at you
@mur2501 He could make huge signs, which would be similar to shouting. ;)
@trinsec
That makes me wonder how do communication works at your office?
@mur2501 Sign language? And I talk when the recipient is hearing.
@trinsec
makes me wonder how folks with cochlear implants do this.
