I think this article and other articles about this letter are written in such a way that they exaggerate the threat of AI systems becoming dangerous conscious entities and overlook the real potential benefits and current dangers of AI.

AI is not about to go Skynet on humanity, AI can be used for good or evil depending on how we design, regulate and use it.

More importantly, though, can also bring massive benefits to humanity, including improving health care, productivity, education, entertainment, etc...

However, AI also poses real challenges and risks right now! Risks like ethical issues, biases, privacy, security, and social impact are real and relevant now.

These are the issues that we should focus on and address. But fear-mongering and sensationalism create clicks so… we can’t avoid them.

@gpowerf To be honest, AI is such a misnomer here. It is not intelligent. It's just using a language model algorithm that 'seems' intelligent, but it's just the averages of all the bullshit that's produced by humans so far.

Far from intelligent. :P

@gpowerf Yes, they just named all that stuff wrong. Now people are starting to give it mythic powers in their mind.

They're just as bad as people who use GPS navigation and don't watch where they drive and then drive into a river because according to the GPS there should've been a bridge. :P
