Ha, neat. The Dutch government has their own Mastodon instance now.

After the Twitter debacle where you couldn't see posts without being logged in for a while, and it coincidenced with a storm with many emergency messages pointing to Twitter, they decided to take this step. :D

They're still prepping up everything, but it should be here:

@trinsec governments running their own instances makes sooooo much sense.. A govt shouldnt be restricted to the moderation policies of some random billionaire.

@freemo Exactly my thought. The European Union already took this step, it's just a matter of time when others move over.

Besides, even if people don't use Mastodon anymore, it's still valid as a standalone website where you can see the latest updates.

@trinsec they planned this Mastodon server since November when the ministry of internal affairs was bright enough to see that Twitter might be a suboptimal medium and they had to try other options.

My guess is that the timing was just right after that fire department pointed to Twitter.

Whatever the reason, this is a big step forward towards an open government. 🥳
