Hot take:
A DA/SA pistol takes about the same time to fire a first shot as a single action with a manual safety if you have any amount of practice

@valleyforge my hot take on that is that the DA shot is a wild waste for most people in an emergency and shouldn't count when considering how fast the shot gets off

@leyonhjelm With practice the first double action shot can be about as accurate as the rest. It just takes longer

@valleyforge "for most people in an emergency"

Your argument is not a valid response to my statement.

@leyonhjelm @valleyforge
Why is it wild waste, pulling the trigger so long?

@su

Because most people barely train, much less on both DA and SA. Most people don't bother even putting on the safety at the range, much less practice drawing (if the range even allows that)

@su

The fact that you shop around fora gun you actually want puts you a step above most people in most regards. Thanks to the manual safety on mine, I pretty much exclusively do SA

Cocked and locked! (I think)
Being able to step out into the back yard and shoot is a great benefit a lot of people don't have.
I'm excited to try it, and nervous

@valleyforge I don't agree. You can actually test it easily with a timer, so it's a factual, falsifiable disagreement and not just my opinion. Most amateurs do 0.4 to 0.7 better with SA or a striker (if they trained to take the safety off while drawing) -- assuming they want to hit the A zone. I'm assuming decent guns in all cases, e.g. not a Makarov. In order to force the first shot down they need to have way more "any amount" of practice. Although perhaps my experience is limited.
