https://waltherarms.com/2021/03/15/walther-pdp-optic-plate-stress-test/ You know a controversy happened when companies become defensive and publish explainer pages like this.

For the record I think Walther are in the right, but only because they chose a large enough screw diameter.

@gat I own one walther and it's probably the least liked thing in my safe. But there isn't anything technically wrong with it, it works perfectly.
@leyonhjelm Walther make a variety of guns; some of them are outstanding, some are not great. IMHO, PDP, PPQ/Q4/Q5, Q5 SF are excellent. I rate them higher than G17/G19/G34 in some regards. The PPQ 22 is mostly okay, if you are open about its limitations. The PK380 is garbage. PPK is a novelty piece. The CCP really makes me mad: so many people fall for it, and it's just not good at all; potentially even unsafe. Fortunatley, it's a single stack and the latest crop of micro nines crushed it in the market. So one hopes it will join PPX/Creed in the wastebasket of history soon and there is no reason to work up about it too much.

@gat @leyonhjelm Why do you think the CCP is potentially unsafe?

@valleyforge @leyonhjelm The biggest issue is the design of the automatic safety that is radically different from e.g. Glock or PPQ. It operates on the sear end of the striker. That in itself is not good, but with high quality materials and sufficient QC it can work, like on P365. But in CCP it's not a button. Instead, they're using the disconnector lever for that, which is located in the frame, not slide. So, it only acts when slide is in battery, then disengages. At the moment it disengages, it lets the striker fall on the sear. Every time you retract a slide on CCP, that happens. You can literally hear it click. I am concerned that this kind of use will eventually cause a mechanical failure. Well, it's a clever way to make the gun cheaper.
@gat

These are great reasons to make sure you test any firearm sufficiently before depending on it. If it doesn't operate flawlessly and consistently, something needs to be corrected. No matter how good the design might be.
