Is it a good idea to make a youtube mirror that mirrors video to #fediverse but is also a #peertube instance?

Stay with me. The instance is a regular peertube instance, when you look for a video, it also searchs in youtube the same fashion invidious does, and then copies the video to #fedi. A new search would just find the video in fedi.

You could call it a #youtube bridge.

@dragnucs part of the problem is that this moves server load from YouTube/Google/Alphabet and onto the often scaled back servers that run instances.

One of those, be careful what you're asking for moments.

I'm happy to let the rich corporation pay the costs of operating the service.

@volkris the load can be spread across servers and also viewers since streaming is done via webtorrent. Storage cost is still considerable but my be lessened if searches are spread out. I mean copied to different servers.

But also remember that there is overhead involved with any spreading of load. It necessarily requires additional resources to manage that.
