Eric Adams doing everything he can to prevent Mamdani from enacting rent control is fundamentally anti-democratic, and toxically pro-landlord, but I won’t hold my breath about it, that’s NYC baseline

It also heavily implies that Adams, Cuomo, and the Dem leadership have resigned themselves to a Mamdani victory

It’s pretty amazing how the Dems wouldn’t lift a finger to prevent Trump from taking over everything before he came into office, but they’re going so hard against Mamdani. Tells you where their priorities are.

The Dems are really going harder on stopping rent control in NYC than they have ever gone on stopping American fascism. You really can’t make this stuff up. I’m pretty cynical, but this is not only evil, it’s also spiteful & makes them look weak.

@sidereal rent control is a fascist policy! It is demanding State control of private activity!

@volkris if this is a joke it isn’t funny or accurate or insightful

@volkris private property isn't a private activity. All property law is a function of state regulations.

@thesquirrelfish not really.

Contrast it with something like copyright. Copyright is a function of state regulation saying that only one person can claim ownership of ideas, an artificial restriction created by the state and delineated by law.

On the other hand, it's not the state saying that, I don't know, only one person can drive a car at once. That's a result of nature. Only one person can control a physical item at once.

Private property arises out of the natural concept of scarcity. Here is a thing. It can only exist at one place at a time, it can only move one way at a time. That is physical law of nature territory.

Property law is merely recognition of that reality.
